Unfortunately, at this time after discussion with the Archbishop Shaw administrative team and Archdiocese of New Orleans, we will be cancelling the 2020 Archbishop Shaw Summer Camp. We will be monitoring the situation however we were recommended that the liability would be too high and we would need to ensure campers maintained social distancing, only interacted in groups of 10 including adults, wore masks at all times, and that any additional guidelines were followed. Because of these requirements we do not feel comfortable holding summer camp at this time; our goal at camp is to ensure all campers’ and counselors’ safety and wellbeing and that seems untenable at this time. We will be reevaluating the situation at the end of June and may host some events in July, though I am unsure of what that will look like at this time.
Summer Camp is one of the things I look forward to each year, I hope that next year we will be able to resume as normal with cardboard boat building, talent shows, snowballs and waterslides. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our campers that have become a part of the Shaw family over the past 39 years and we hope to see you again next summer.
