Shaw Family Serves at Food Bank – Hurricane Ida

Shaw Family Serves at Food Bank
By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB

On Friday, September 3rd, members of the Archbishop Shaw family went to the Giving Hope food pantry on Barataria and Lapalco to assist the needy. Giving Hope is a tremendous outreach for food in our West Bank community. The founders and CEOs are Mr. and Mrs. Troy Duhon. Troy is a Shaw graduate from the Class of 1982.

Fr. Wilgintz Polynice SDB, our mission coordinator at Archbishop Shaw, was present with a smile to greet our boys and parents as they arrived. Mrs. Celina Crossland, one of our teachers, helped organize.

Over 500 families came to the food pantry and were given assistance that day. During this difficult time in our community, many who are suffering the aftermath of the hurricane need food. Giving Hope is truly a blessing. The Shaw students, teachers and parents who served are a blessing, too. They came out to help others even though they are without electricity themselves.

In attendance were:

Students
Daniel Mailhos (House Savio)
Gavyn Morales (House Frassati)
Kaden Robichaux (House Frassati)
Enrico Tapia (House Acutis)

Faculty
Mrs. Crossland (House Frassati)

Parents and Alumni
Marce Couture
Jennifer Mailhos
Fred Morales
Kaci Robichaux

We will be going back to the food bank often. Shaw now has an ongoing relationship with Giving Hope and our students will be serving there on an ongoing basis throughout the school year.
