In November some of Shaw’s STEM students went on a field trip to the Joule Solar Energy Headquarters in New Orleans. Bob O’Hara of Joule Solar Energy gave a presentation to the students on the basics of electricity and solar power. Afterward, the students were able to tour the warehouse where they saw various types of solar panels and LED lighting which are two of Joule’s specialties. Students saw a live demonstration on how to survey a roof or other area being prepped for solar panel installation in order to determine where there would be the maximum sun exposure. Over the whole day the students had the opportunity to interact with equipment and ask questions about all the things they were learning.
