Feast of St. Blaise

In celebration of the feast of St. Blaise the blessing of the throat was offered to the entire Shaw community.  Many students, faculty, and staff members took this opportunity to receive the blessing of St. Blaise faithfully hoping to be spared from illness, especially of the throat.  The practice is done with the candles that were blessed on Candlemas being placed on either side of the throat while the blessing is said.  This custom arises from the story of St. Blaise saving the life of a boy who choking on a bone in his throat.
