On Saturday October the 25th the basketball program held the annual Alumni basketball game. This was the second game played in as many years and this year the Alumni were able to squeak out a 1 point victory under dubious circumstances. The alumni’s size and strength advantage was obvious throughout the game and the Shaw team had problems covering the fast break after the young Eagles bombed away with some ill-advised three pointers. At the half the Alumni led by 10 after Jeremy Bailey (class of 2006) hit a buzzer beating 3 from long distance. In the third quarter the young Eagles managed to even the game up through more disciplined play and better shot selection. The fourth quarter did lead to some discussion over whether to play a few more quarters or not, however the Alumni did manage to hold a 1 point lead at the end of the fourth quarter. This result ties the series at 1 win apiece for the two sides and most importantly both sides competed with a strong Shaw spirit. For the current Eagles Averriell Thomas shot the ball nicely and for the Alumni, current football coach Tommy Connors’ (class of 2006) strong play was a highlight of the night, as well as the sharp shooting of Jason LeBlanc (class of 2014).
